NDIS Eligibility

Can I get a bidet funded?

Yes — if your disability affects your toileting independence, a bidet qualifies as Assistive Technology under the NDIS support catalogue.

01

Physical disability or limited mobility

Difficulty reaching, gripping or managing personal hygiene due to cerebral palsy, MS, stroke, spinal injury, or arthritis — bidets restore independence.

02

Post-surgical or medical need

Recent surgery, haemorrhoids, continence issues, or skin integrity concerns can all justify a bidet as a reasonable and necessary support item in your plan.

03

Carer burden reduction

If a support worker assists with toileting hygiene, a bidet directly reduces that burden — which NDIS actively funds as it increases your independence.

04

Supports your NDIS plan goals

Your plan needs a goal around daily living independence or personal care. Bidets align with "increase independence in daily personal care activities."

05

Age-related conditions

Reduced grip strength, balance issues, or cognitive decline can all support a bidet prescription for eligible NDIS participants.

Official NDIS Support Item

Bidet seats are officially recognised Assistive Technology

Listed in the NDIS Support Catalogue under Assistive Technology — specifically "Assistive Products for Personal Care and Safety."

Your plan manager or support coordinator can help you claim against this line item once you have an OT recommendation and a NDIS-compliant invoice from us.

The Process

Six steps from here to there.

We've mapped every step so you're never guessing. Most people complete the full process in 2–4 weeks.

01
Check Eligibility

Find out if you qualify

Start with a quick self-check. Do you have an active NDIS plan with Assistive Technology funding? Does your disability affect toileting independence? If yes to both — you're likely eligible. Not sure? Call us and we'll help you figure it out in minutes.

Quick eligibility check

  • Active NDIS plan with AT funding
  • Disability affects toileting or personal hygiene
  • A goal around daily living independence
  • Bidet is "reasonable and necessary" for your needs
Not sure? Call our OT line on 1300 243 387 — available Monday–Friday.
02
OT Assessment

Get an OT recommendation

An OT assessment is the cornerstone of your NDIS claim. Your OT assesses your functional needs, documents how a bidet improves independence, reduces carer burden, and aligns with your plan goals. They write a formal recommendation you'll use in your claim.

What your OT will assess

  • Current toileting ability and barriers
  • Physical, cognitive, and sensory factors
  • Current carer involvement and costs
  • Trial of the bidet (we can arrange this)
  • Bidet model most suited to your needs
We work with OTs. Specs, trial units, and clinical documentation provided. Email ot@thebidetshop.com.au
03
Choose Your Bidet

Pick the right model for your needs

We stock the full range — from simple non-electric models through to fully electronic seats with heated water, warm air drying, and remote controls for limited mobility. Our team helps match the right bidet to your specific disability needs and bathroom setup.

What to consider

  • Electric vs non-electric (powerpoint required?)
  • Remote control for limited hand dexterity
  • Seat shape — round or D-shape to fit your toilet
  • Arm support accessories available
  • Bariatric options for larger users
Will it fit? We confirm compatibility with your toilet pan before you order. All products carry WMTS-051 certification.
04
Get Your Invoice

Receive your NDIS-compliant invoice

Once you've chosen your product, we issue an NDIS-compliant invoice including the correct support item code, GST-free status, and all required detail for your claim. We handle the paperwork so you don't have to.

Your invoice includes

  • NDIS item code: 05_091200111_0103_1_2
  • GST-free pricing — AT is exempt in Australia
  • Product description and specifications
  • Our registered provider details
Plan managed or self-managed? Both work. We provide invoices for both claim types.
05
Submit & Claim

Submit your claim to NDIS

Using your OT report and our invoice, your plan manager or support coordinator submits the claim to the NDIS portal. Self-managed participants can claim directly through the myNDIS app. Funds are typically released within 3–5 business days.

What you'll need to submit

  • OT assessment and recommendation letter
  • Our NDIS-compliant quote or invoice
  • Your NDIS plan reference number
  • Plan manager or support coordinator contact
First time claiming AT? We'll walk you through the portal step-by-step on a call.
06
Delivered & Supported

Your bidet arrives — and we support you after

Once funded, your order ships fast. Installation takes 15 minutes and everything is in the box. Our team is available 5 days a week after delivery — 90% of queries are resolved over the phone. We don't disappear after the sale.

After delivery

  • Full installation guide and video support
  • Phone support 5 days a week
  • Extended warranty options available
  • Trade-in programme when you're ready to upgrade
Need a plumber? Australian plumbing code requires a licensed plumber. We can recommend qualified NDIS-familiar installers in your state.
For OTs & Participants

Your OT is the key to funding.

An OT recommendation is the clinical foundation of your NDIS claim. It also applies to DVA, Home Care Packages, and other Australian funding bodies.

Comprehensive functional assessment of current toileting ability

Documentation of physical, cognitive, sensory, or psychosocial barriers

Evidence that a bidet is the most reasonable and necessary solution

Alignment with NDIS plan goals — daily living, independence, hygiene

Specific product recommendation with model justification

Quantified carer reduction and hygiene outcome benefits

Common Questions

Things people always ask.

Yes — an Occupational Therapist's written assessment is the foundation of any successful NDIS claim for a bidet. The OT documents your functional need, how a bidet addresses it, and recommends the specific model. Without this, your claim is unlikely to be approved. We help connect you with OTs familiar with bidet prescription in Australia.
It doesn't need to. Your plan needs AT (Category 05) funding and a goal related to daily living independence or personal care. The specific item doesn't need to be named — it just needs to be "reasonable and necessary." Your OT report makes this case.
Most participants complete the process in 2–4 weeks. The main variable is how quickly you can book your OT assessment. Once we have your OT report, we issue the NDIS invoice same-day. Plan managers typically process claims within 3–5 business days, then your bidet ships immediately.
NDIS funds the bidet seat itself under the AT category (item code 05_091200111_0103_1_2). It does not typically fund the plumber's installation cost. The OT assessment cost may be funded separately under Improved Daily Living. We'll help clarify what's covered given your specific plan.
Absolutely. Self-managed participants can purchase from any provider and claim reimbursement through the myNDIS app or participant portal. We provide a fully NDIS-compliant invoice with all the correct codes and information you need.
Yes — and we encourage it. We can liaise directly with your plan manager or support coordinator to provide invoices, answer product questions, and confirm compatibility. Just let us know when you enquire.
